Master student discussion (Zaynab Moaiyad Abdulmoniem)

A master’s student “Zaynab Moaiyad Abdulmoniem” defended her thesis entitled:

“Study of Some Properties of Prosthetic Composite Materials in Dental Applications”

on Wednesday, November 11 th , at the conference room C/ Materials Engineering Department/University of Technology. The Committee included:

Abstract
The aim of this study is to improve and develop the poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as acrylic resin material, which are commonly used for manufacturing of
partial and complete denture base material. This could be achieved by the addition of a new natural powders to produce PMMA composite material, the (PMMA) resin strengthening by addition two types of natural powders (Peanut and Walnut Shells) powders to enhance its properties and resist any reasons of cracks which lead to the finally fracture of denture base. These reinforcing powders added with a similar particle size and different weight fractions. Therefore, this work showed the efficiency of adding these powders on mechanical and physical properties of PMMA composite denture base material samples. Furthermore, this work finished by performing several mechanical and physical tests such as (tensile, impact, flexural, compression, hardness, surface roughness, density and water absorption) tests. In addition to other tests, morphological test such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and miscibility tests such as (differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)).

A test for graduate school application was held at Materials Engineering Department/ University of Technology on Sunday, October, 18^th 2020, 9:00 AM. The test was done under the direction of department chairman assistant prof. dr. Husayn Alaa, deputy chairman of Materials Engineering Department for postgraduate affairs dr. Muhanned Najah and deputy chairman of Materials Engineering Department for departmental affairs with applying all precautions to avoid spread covid- 19 as much as possible.

Abstract:

In this work, a hybrid concrete composite prepared by adding two fibers types, steel, and polypropylene. Firstly, two groups ofconcrete samples made by incorporating steel and polypropylene fibers individually at different volume fractions ( 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1 % ). This work designates the effects of hybrid fibers and its modulus on concrete dissipation energy under various dynamic loadings (ultrasonic pulse velocity UPV, Impact strength), and measured as a hybrid and individual fiber concrete.

New concrete properties results showed that adding fibers to the concrete mixture would cause a significant reduction in the fresh state properties of Fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC). Steel fibers reinforced concrete (SFRC), always shows better results in all the strength types than polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete (PFRC), while for the Hybrid fibers reinforced concrete HFRC group shows an intermediate value between the fore mentioned groups related to conventional concrete.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to prepare graphene nano sheets from graphite flakes and to improve the properties of the ionomer glass cement by adding different volume fractions of graphene, as the graphene was prepared using the planetary wet ball milling method as a basic method in addition to the use of both ultrasound and centrifugation as assistants. the prepared materials were characterized using various techniques such as (scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, XRD) and others.

The results proved the success of the method used to convert graphite into graphene, in addition to improving the properties of the nanocomposite (glass ionomer cement + graphene), specifically at the volume fraction of 0.2% graphene.

By preparation of high-performance polymeric materials reinforced with hybrid nanoparticles to increase the durability of the base material to be suited the environmental conditions of used. In addition to the preparation of multifunctional structural layers reinforced with high performance fibers.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to fabricate polystyrene polymeric membranes by electrospinning technique followed by the chemical modification by sulfonation reaction. Sulfonation reaction was done by sulfuric acid as a sulfonation agent at two concentrations (98% and 20%), so the membranes gain proton conductivity properties as well as ion exchange capacity. The membranes would be able to use as a solid electrolyte in proton exchange membranes fuel cells.

Abstract

The thesis work deals with the development chitosan (CS) based composite scaffold with improved materials for bone tissue engineering. Chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol scaffolds crosslinked with natural crossliker (genipin) and reinforced with nano hydroxyapatite with different concentrations were successfully prepared by solvent casting and electrospining technique and characteriezed by mechanical , wettability, swelling, degradation, antibacterial activity,in vitro and vivo tests.

The discussion was conducted in a scientific atmosphere, and the student was awarded a doctorate degree with a grade of (Pass) after completing all the amendments that were put forth by the discussants.

The electronic exams for students of initial studies

The Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology today, Saturday 25-07-2020 has started the electronic exams for students of initial studies for the morning and evening studies for the second semester / first round of the academic year 2019-2020 on the Google classroom platform.Where the exams are conducted under the direct supervision of the head of the department, assistant professor Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber with the scientific assistant lecturer Dr. Muhannad Najah Jawad and the administration of the committee responsible for implementing the electronic exams headed by the administrative assistant Asst.Prof .
