Abstract
316L stainless steel alloys are extensively used in orthopedic applications for the fixations and substitutions of defective bone tissues in the human body. this study attempts to increase the alloy's resistance against corrosion, and improve the bone-implant interaction by encouraging the osseointegration while maintaining its good mechanical properties, through applying a modified coating layer of PMMA-based composites with two different bio-active ceramics i.e. hydroxyapatite and titanium carbide as reinforcement materials using dry electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) under constant conditions. The biological behavior of the coated samples was studied by investigating their corrosion, antibacterial, and wetting attributes. The results revealed that a high surface wettability, good osteoconductivity, improved antibacterial, and anticorrosion attributions were also observed.
After the discussion committee recorded its observations on the thesis, which were divided between explanation and correction and the student’s defense of her message and the discussion ended, the committee decided to evaluate the thesis, and decided to grant the student a master’s degree with a full grade.
