MSc. Dissertation discussion

On 28 / 6 / 2015 a discussion of MSc. Dissertation entitled " Preparation and characterization of bio-memory alloy form the basis of which cobalt" submitted by the student Zinaa A. Salman took place in postgraduate studies hall of materials engineering department .
The committee of discussion consisted of the following lecturers :

Postgraduate Student Seminar / About Expedition Research

On 25/06/2015 a seminar presented by the PhD. Student "Sura A. Muhsin about her expedition research to Missouri state university  was held in postgraduate studies hall of the   materials engineering department and chaired by Dr. Saad B. H.  Farid and department reporter Dalia M.Jomah.  and attended by a group of our academic staff and a group of postgraduate students at 9:30 A.M.

The student discussed the method of preparation and characterization of the specimens that the doctoral research " Investigation The Behavior Of Metallic Matrix Composite Material As Bio-Implant" concerned with.

She also discussed the preparation of titanium metal specimens  and hydroxyapatite  for biological uses through utilizing developed devices and novel techniques.

Assignment

On 16/06/2015  Assist. Pro. Dr. Alaa  A. Atiyah the head of materials engineering department instructed his administrative assistant Assist .Pro .Dr. Laith K. Abbas to attend the ceremony of signing a memorandum about scientific cooperation between Nanotechnology and advanced materials research center / university of technology and midland refineries company / ministry of oil .the signing of the memorandum was done by both  Pro. Dr. Ameen D. Thamer the president of the university of technology and the manager of midland refineries company /ministry of oil. a group of heads of departments and academic staff of university of technology  has attended the ceremony as well.

Deputation

According to the ministerial order  of ministry of higher education and scientific research / research and development department numbered 1955 on 02/06/2015 , two members of materials engineering department  that were  Assist. Pro .Dr. Ahmed M. Hassan and Assist. Pro .Dr. Alaa A. Abdel - Hamead ,have been deputized  for one day that matched 2 / 6 / 2015 to university of Babylon / engineering college as a committee to accomplish a field visit  and to oversee the material and human potentials  of the college to discuss establishment of doctoral studies in polymers and  composites branch  / non metallic materials  department /materials engineering college / university of Babylon.

Financial Grant

on  15/06/2015 , with  the attendance of    Assist. Pro. Dr. Alaa  A. Atiyah the head of materials engineering department ,   the financial grant has been delivered to the undergraduate and postgraduate students (MSc. and PhD.) that amount to 300,0000 dinars for the months (December, January and February ) .the number of undergraduate  students that have been delivered was 164 while the number of postgraduate students was 11.

Visit of The President of The University of Technology

on 13/06/2015 Pro. Dr. Ameen D. Thamer the president of the university of technology accompanied by his both scientific and administrative assistants has visited  the materials engineering department to oversee the proceeding of final examinations and was received by  Assis. Pro. Dr. Alaa  A. Atyaa  the head of the department. The president inquired the students about the nature of the questions and wished them success.

The Meeting of The Head of The Materials Engineering Department with The Employees of The Department

on 08/06/2015  Assis. Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah  the head of the materials engineering department has met the employees of the department in council department hall with the attendance of his administrative assistant .he appreciated the efforts done by them that made the department to be the second best of all the departments of the university of technology concerning administrative aspects. he also appreciated the administrative achievements done by administrative staff ,engineers and technicians and he considered them to be the proper tool to carry out the administrative strategy  of the department by precision and speed in accomplishing work assigned to them. he also discussed the pattern of the rules of organized behavior between employees in state sectors. he also listened to the opinions and suggestions of the employees that  could develop the sections of the department especially those with direct connection with the citizens like certificates and registration  sections. on the end of the meeting the head of the department appreciated the well  performance done by the employees and motivated them to continue perseverance that develop  administrative process according to the essentials of public interest.

The President of University of Technology Oversee the Proceedings of Final Examinations

on 30/05/2015  Pro. Dr. Ameen D. Thamer the president of University of Technology visited the Materials Engineering Department to oversee the proceedings of final examinations for the year 2014/2015, he listened to a detailed demonstration by Ass. Pro. Dr . Alaa A. Atiyah  the head of Materials Engineering Department about the essential steps that adopted by the department to make the examination succeeded including accommodation of examination halls and providing all convenient conditions for the students. The president of university of technology also inquired  students  about the nature of  the questions and wished them success.

Final Examinations

on 26/05/2015 the final examinations of undergraduate students of materials engineering department started. Ass. Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah accompanied by both scientific and administrative assistants took a tour around and inside examination halls, he also oversaw the examinations proceedings and the nature of the questions, he also wished success to all students. The number of students that participated in examinations were 240.

General Authority Meeting

          Pro. Dr . Ameen D. Thamer the president of UOT assured during the General Authority Meeting of Materials Engineering Department held on 25/05/2015 with the attendance of Ass. Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah the head of the department, scientific and administrative assistant and academic staff that the obtaining advanced position internationally by university of technology was the results of concerted efforts done by its staff including professors, researchers and employees to transcend scientific aspects that made us proud, he also recommended promoting electronic web sites of the departments of the university by continuous uploading of published scientific researches, discriminative projects and examination results because these promoted web sites could be a good reflection of all activities and achievements of the university.
         He also elucidated that the outcomes of universities can be evaluated by convenient preparations for final examinations and providing good conditions and all success requirements for our students the head of the materials engineering department appreciated the continuous support and wise instructions of the president of university of technology to develop and activate the materials engineering department to serve society
        The head of the department mentioned that listening to the opinions of the staff and taking into consideration the suggestions that expose the activities of department took priority especially that the department had been evaluated as being the topmost concerning scientific and administrative aspects and this reflected discriminative performance of the department, he also recommended enhancing efforts to make use of all positives and achieved targets ,he also recommended accomplishing all preparations for final examinations and providing essential requirements to make examinations proceedings succeeded at the end of the general authority meeting, the head of the materials engineering department appreciated the efforts and special performance done by academic staff during the semesters of 2014/2015 and wished them success.

Scientific conference

On 20/05/2015 a group of our academic staff(Assis. Pro. Dr. Jawad K. Oleiwi , Assis. Pro. Dr. Sohama E. Saleh and Dr . Qahtan A. Hamad) participated with their scientific research " Tensile study and examination of the microscopic structure of the polycarbonate resin properties unparalleled Metha Akrliat self-processor kit full of artificial teeth " in the international scientific conference held in the college of materials engineering / Babylon university under slogan "materials engineering is the fundamental of scientific and industrial development. Dr . Qahtan A. Hamad demonstrated the research.

Originality Versus Innovation in Scientific Research

On  29/04/2015 a lecture of title" Originality Versus Innovation in Scientific Research"  was attended by the   head of materials engineering department  , scientific assistant and some other academic staff and was presented by Ass. Lec. Dr. Saad B. H. Fareed .

That lecture discussed the difference between originality , innovation ,patent , novelty and building  both scientific capabilities and scientific research. That lecture included questionnaire focused on  the main targets of projects of undergraduate students and thesis of PhD. And MSc. Degrees.

The results of that questionnaire reflected positive impression with items discussed in that lecture. Those results sent to the head of materials engineering department with a suggestion to be a part of scientific assistant documents

 Lectures

On 28/04/2015 a lecture about "prospects of cooperation between university of technology and petroleum establishments and institutes"  ,attended by a number of our academic staff, was presented by Lec. Dr. Muhammad A. Muhammad.

That lecture  discussed  prospects and evaluation of cooperation plan with ministry of petroleum and petroleum refineries company .also discussed the possibility of consolidating academic role of materials engineering department /university of technology through offering proposals that contribute in developing  Iraqi petroleum industries.

Appreciation for Dedication

On 27/04/2015 Ass. Pro. Dr. Abbass  K. hussain the head of general materials engineering department had been appreciated by the minster of high education and scientific research for the dedication of his book "design of engineering materials "to his Excellency.

Rewarding

On 28/04/2015 the head of materials engineering department  Ass. Pro . Dr . Alaa A. Atiyah met a number of academic and employees staff  of women and  rewarded some of them with a memorial gifts  for having PhD degree and some for being hard working employees  . on behalf of staff  Ass. Pro .Dr . Suhamma A .Salih had given the head a memorial gift  out of appreciation for his  continuous support.

Corrosion in Aircrafts Industry

Assist. Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah the head of materials engineering department had published a book by lambert academic publishing house.

The title of the book is "corrosion in aircrafts industry" the book consists of four chapters discussing fundamentals of corrosion and its kinds and mechanical properties of aircrafts. It also contains demonstration of main parts of aircrafts and materials used in manufacturing them.

Participation in Symposium

On 12/04/2015 a number of our academic staff participated in symposium that held in materials engineering department / Al-Mustansirya University of title "Biological Materials and its Engineering Applications" This symposium was chaired by Dr. Fadhel A. Chyad.

Ending The Fourth Cultural Season

On 16/04 /2015 the fourth cultural season ended with holding a scientific lecture of title "Academic Accreditation and its Standards" presented by Dr . Husain A. Jabbar  with  the attendance of  Ass. Pro. Dr. Farhad M. Othman the scientific assistant  and Ass. Pro.  Dr. Laith Q. Abbas the administrative assistant and some other academic staff.

A scientific competition between students of fourth and third grades of all branches had been held included various questions. The Ceramic and Building Materials won this competition.

At the end of all activities of the fourth cultural season Ass.Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah the head of materials engineering department delivered   a certificates of appreciation to all members of preparatory committee and the students participated in the scientific competition.

Continues of The Fourth Cultural Season

On 15 /4 /2015 the fourth day of cultural season started with inauguration of an exhibition by the president of university of technology Pro. Dr. Ameen D. Thamer and his scientific assistant Dr. Wissam K. Hamdan and a number of heads of other departments of the University of Technology. Ass. Pro. Dr. Alaa A. Atiyah the head of materials engineering  department received them delightfully .

This exhibition included demonstration of special graduate projects, PhD. and MSc. thesis discussed in 2015 and some posters done by students showed mechanical and engineering  drawing and some  activities.

The president of university also reopened strength of materials laboratory after restoration and providing with new equipments .he appreciated efforts done by the staff to develop laboratories and hence serving students and researchers.

On 14 / 4 /2015 the third day of cultural season started with holding a seminar presented by  PhD students and attended by the head of materials engineering department and some other academic staff. students demonstrated their results . this seminar chaired  by Ass.Pro. Dr.Laith Q.Abbass the administrative assistant.

Continues of The Fourth Cultural Season

On the  13/04/2015 the second day of culture season started with holding an exhibition of scientific outputs of materials engineering department .this exhibition was visited by mayor of Baghdad Mr. Ali Al-Timimi and acting minister of higher education and scientific research and some other dignitaries. They listened to a detailed demonstration about these outputs.

The delegate of ministry of oil, the engineer Mrs. Zakia A. Yousif also visited our exhibition and showed interest in gas detection compound that has a deep connection with gases of refineries and light weight fire brick compound that could be used in furnace used for separation of oil products. The delegate invited our academic staff to participate in Iraq third conference for oil and gas.

Rewarding

On 12 /4 2015,the head of materials engineering department Ass. Pro. Dr.  Alaa A. Atiyah and Ass. Pro.  Dr. Farhad M. Authman the scientific assistant received a number of students that won cultural contest held in control and systems department on occasion of 40 anniversary of university of technology. The head appreciated efforts done by the winner students and wished them success in all aspects.

The Fourth Cultural Season

Under custody of the president of university of technology Prof. Dr. Ameen Dawi Thamer, materials engineering department held its fourth cultural season on 12-16/04/ 2015 under motto "with our army and our alhashed alshaaby, Iraq will be more strong and progress".

First day of this season included seminar about:

1.             Computers application in materials engineering presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Abbas Khamas the head of general materials engineering branch

2.             Welding in the Bullion presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadhel Abbas
