Abstract
Researchers investigated new body armor technologies in response to the development of new weaponry. This research aims to create a hybrid composite and test it experimentally and theoretically under ballistic impact. Body armor is designed with multiple layers. The first design consisted of rubber/ceramic/ (Al2O3) rubber/20 layers of UHMWPE reinforced epoxy/rubber. Where rubber and ceramics represent the first line of protection against lead, followed by the intermediate compound. Then rubber was used for the back layer. The second design consisted of ceramic (Al2O3)/10 layers of UHMWPE reinforced epoxy/steel/ceramic (Al2O3)/10 layers of UHMWPE reinforced epoxy/steel. Where the area of both armor was 900 cm2 and an AK-47 bullet was fired at a distance of 15 m at a speed of 730 m/s, and another 9 mm pistol bullet was fired at a distance of 5 meters and a speed of 310 m/s against both armors. Where the results of the ballistic examination showed that the first and second armor were punctured and penetrated by an AK-47 bullet, while the second armor stopped the 9 mm pistol bullet without a hole, ANSYS Autodyn R21 was used to simulate the ballistic effect..
Both Asst.Prof. Muhannad Najm Abdul Wahed and Lect. Ali Kamel Ahmed from the Department of Materials Engineering volunteered to serve the community by participating in the program to monitor the implementation of policies for recycling plastic waste in Baghdad and in cooperation with the International National Democratic Institute, which was held for the period from 1/2-2022 to 7/31/2022.
Two Facilty staff from the Department of Materials Engineering participated in a voluntary work
Both Asst.Prof. Muhannad Najm Abdul Wahed and Lect.
