Two teaching staff, Prof. Dr. Aala Aladdin Abdel Hamid and Prof. Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman in the Department of Materials Engineering obtained patent titled
"Using Plant Residues to Prepare Nano-Powdered Aluminum Oxide in a Green Method and Study its Structural Properties"
Abstract
In this patent, nano aluminum oxide was prepared by the green synthesis method from Mentha, Buckthorn, Damask Rose, Myrtus communis leaves, and mixture of these leaves, using aluminum nitrate as a precursor. A high-purity aluminum oxide powder was obtained with the least used materials and in an economical way.
The results showed that the powders prepared from leaves of Menthe, Buckthorn, Damask Rose, Myrtus communis leaves, and mixture of these leaves had an average particle size in nano range. Without lumps and in different morphology, also, the powder extracted from Myrtus communis leaves was in the form of pressed granules. As for the powder extracted from the mixture of leaves, it contained more than one granular shape. All the produced powders were aluminum oxide with alpha phase.
The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology holds a workshop
The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology held a workshop entitled "Energy, Renewable Energies and Materials Engineering Applications". And that is on Monday, 19/12/2022, at ten o’clock in the morning, in the doctoral hall / building B, in the presence of the head of the department, the respected Hussein Alaa Jaber and the scientific assistant, the respected Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazem Aliwi. Administrative Assistant, Asst.Prof. Dr.Laith Waddah Ismail Lectured in the workshop. The workshop aimed to introduce energy, renewable energy, materials engineering applications, sustainability, and the use of environmentally friendly materials to reduce fuel consumption. At the end of the workshop, the department head presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Laith Waddah.
Under the auspices of the President of the University of Technology (Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban) and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Materials Engineering (Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber), the Coordinator of the Women’s Empowerment Unit / University Presidency, in cooperation with the Department of Materials Engineering, held a symposium entitled “Iraq and Resolution 1325 of the Security Council on Women, Peace and Security”, which was held in the Department of Materials Engineering on Monday, 12/12/2022 in the Ph.D. Hall / Building B, on the anniversary of the issuance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and within the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women.
The symposium was attended by the head of the department (Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber) the scientific assistant (Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazem), the administrative assistant (Assist. Prof. Dr. Laith Waddah Ismail) and the lady in charge of the Women's Empowerment Unit at the University Presidency.
The lecture was presented by Assistant Professor Basma Khalil Namiq, a civil and political activist and a teaching staff at the College of Political Science / University of Baghdad, and a coordinating member of the Women's Empowerment Unit in the college. The lecture included violence against women during armed conflicts and how Resolution No. 1325 on women, peace and security was adopted by the Council Security and unanimously on October 31, 2000, which is the first time that the Security Council has confronted the negative effects of armed conflicts on women and recognized the importance of women's full participation and as an active component in establishing peace and security.
At the end of the symposium, Head of the Department of Materials Engineering (Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber), distributed certificates of appreciation to Assist. Prof. Basma Khalil and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mona Taha Idris, and a group photo was taken for this occasion.
The Materials Engineering Department received a delegation from the College of Engineering/ University of Diyala.
The Materials Engineering Department, which was represented by the Honorable Scientific Associate, Prof. Dr. Jawad K. Oleiwi, welcomed a group of students and teachers from the College of Engineering/Department of Materials Engineering/University of Diyala to show them the department's laboratories. They were introduced to the available laboratories, equipment, and engineering tests.
