The Department of Materials Engineering held a workshop entitled
"The Role of Educational Guidance in Using Sustainable Transportation"
on Thursday, 11/7/2024 at noon in Hall 6. The workshop was lectured by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein and Lect. Iman Kazim Hamza, in the presence of the respected Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazim Aliwi, and many third-year students in the department. The workshop dealt with studying the environmental damage of traditional means of transportation and the material and health damages resulting from relying on them, as well as sustainable means of transportation and their advantages and the experiences of some advanced countries in treating or reducing the negative effects of using traditional means of transportation.
At the end of the lecture, the Head of the Department praised the distinguished efforts made in preparing and delivering the lecture and appreciated its efforts with a certificate of appreciation for the two lecturers.
The PhD student (Lara Imad Youssef) discussed her thesis entitled (Using 3D Printing for Prosthetics Composite). The discussion was held in the discussion hall/building B / Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology on Wednesday (30/10/2024). Abstract
This study aimed to creating a new innovative foot using composite filament by a 3D printer. Tensile and hardness tests were conducted on the prepared samples, in addition to fatigue, dorsiflexion and ground reaction force tests for the prosthetic foot and a comparison was made between the newly prosthetic-feet and the (SACH) foot. The results showed that a newly designed Prosthetic-Foot surpasses (SACH) foot in terms of performance, cost-effectiveness, longevity, dorsiflexion angle, stability, weight and comfort for the amputee.

Abstract
The study aimed to manufacture a cream to treat second-degree burns using plant and herbal extracts such as Moringa herb, St. John's wort, aloe vera, okra and fish collagen to obtain a cream that avoids side effects and reduces the use of chemicals. The results showed that all the prepared creams had similar viscosity except for the aloe vera and okra sample, and that the chemical tests such as pH values were within the normal range that the skin can tolerate, and the biological tests such as the animal study and the histological test proved the efficiency of these creams in treating burns and restoring almost all layers of the skin.
